The Arizona Cardinals signed Justin Drescher on Tuesday to replace fellow long snapper Aaron Brewer, who was placed on the injured reserve after he broke his wrist in the team’s Sunday loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 29-year-old Drescher was released by the New Orleans Saints in late August, reaching an injury settlement. He was hurt in the team’s third preseason game against the Texans this season and was seen wearing a walking boot on his left leg the next week, according to nola.com.

Drescher was with the Saints for seven years. He played in 16 games each of the past six seasons and started snapping for the Saints in Week 12 of 2010.

Brewer suffered a broken wrist in the first half of his team’s Week 5 game while trying to make a tackle on the Eagles’ Kenjon Barner. The long snapper collided with several players after the tackle attempt.

Arizona replaced Brewer on Sunday with defensive tackle Josh Mauro, who handled punts. Right guard Evan Boehm snapped on a field goal attempt and an extra point.
