This is how good of a day it was for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer.
His team led 24-0 in the third quarter when, at the 17-yard line, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers pass rusher burst through the O-line up the middle, putting a 2nd-and-7 in jeopardy. But Palmer dropped back, loaded up and lofted a ball to the right pylon toward receiver John Brown.
With Tampa Bay rookie defensive back Justin Evans in coverage and sprinting with Brown, the back-shoulder toss by Palmer allowed Brown to hit the brakes, turn and grab the ball to walk into the end zone easily as Evans streaked past him.
The pass, Palmer’s 14th on the day, was also his 14th completion. Three of those passes went for touchdowns as Arizona scored the first 31 points in the 38-33 win.
Palmer played behind a healthier offensive line, and the addition of running back Adrian Peterson, who eclipsed the 100-yard mark in the third quarter, didn’t hurt, either.
Palmer’s 15th passing attempt, a deep ball to J.J. Nelson, was intercepted.
The quarterback finished 18-of-22 for 283 yards on the day.
