With the Arizona Cardinals headed to London, we take you back to this video from September from BBC Sport in which a handful of NFL players attempt to play “proper football.”
One of those players was the Cardinals’ Tyrann Mathieu, who teamed up with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills and Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker. They took on Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs, New Orleans Saints defensive end Alex Jenkins and Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Brandon Williams.
The rules and structure of the game wasn’t clear beyond a small pitch with three players to a side.
As expected, the quality of play wasn’t pretty.
Of the three goals scored in the video, there was a goalie throw, a deflected goalie kick and Stills’ failed touch of Diggs’ shot on goal into his own net.
Credit to Mathieu, though, looking the most skilled of the six. He showed off a stepover dribble and on his goal celebration, did his best Cristiano Ronaldo impression of the Real Madrid forward’s signature celebration.
