Forgetting the result for a minute, let’s flip back to the first quarter of the Phoenix Suns’ season-opener against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
That 7-2 lead wouldn’t stand, but here’s a neat-o play that you’ll surely be watching over and over.
The Blazers’ Pat Connaughton turns the ball over along the sideline, and just as the Suns’ Eric Bledsoe intercepts his pass, all five of Phoenix’s players immediately begin sprinting in transition at the exact same moment.
It’s mesmerizing — hypnotic, even.
The play ends with rookie Josh Jackson finishing with a transition dunk, giving the Suns a 9-2 lead.
By the end of the entire game, that lead wouldn’t stand.
Phoenix suffered a 48-point defeat, its worst loss ever that also set a record for the biggest margin of defeat on opening night.
