The Arizona Cardinals signed center Max Tuerk off the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad and placed center Daniel Munyer on the injured reserve with a toe issue, the team announced Monday.

A USC product, Tuerk was a third-round draft pick by the Chargers in 2016 but did not dress for a game during his rookie season.

Tuerk, a three-time All-Pac-12 lineman, appeared in 38 games for the Trojans with starts at center, left guard, left tackle and right tackle.

Munyer was third on the Cardinals’ depth chart at center, behind starter A.Q. Shipley and backup Evan Boehm, who was the starting right guard to begin the year. Arizona signed veteran Earl Watford on Oct. 2, effectively moving Boehm back on the depth chart.

Tuerk was suspended for the first four games of 2017 for taking performance-enhancing substances. The Chargers waived him after that was served before re-signing him to the practice squad in late October.

“This offseason, I made the mistake of taking over-the-counter supplements,” the second-year pro said in a statement after the suspension was handed down. “In doing so, I opened myself up to the possibility of consuming a tainted supplement – something that ultimately led to a positive test for a banned substance.

“I accept responsibility for my actions and understand the NFL’s policy is very clear on this matter. This is a very hard way to learn a lesson, and I will never make this mistake again.”
