It’s official. For the sixth time in school history, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks are headed to the FCS playoffs.
After finishing the regular season at 7-4 (6-2), NAU earned an at-large bid to the playoffs where they will host the University of San Diego Toreros (9-2, 8-0) at Walkup Skydome on Saturday, Nov. 25.
“I am elated for all members of the program who fought through an 0-2 start and the adversity our program faced this season to keep focus, come back, compete and earn this opportunity,” Jerome Souers said.
It will be the first time the Lumberjacks have seen postseason action since 2013 and the fifth time overall under current head coach Souers.
“We have been on the fringe and on the outside looking in during previous seasons,” Souers said. “It is tough being a bubble team. We play in a strong conference with a lot of good teams that were very deserving. The selection committee has a truly difficult job. I am glad they rewarded us for our difficult schedule and we are excited to have the opportunity to move forward in the postseason.”
The winner of Saturday’s contest will travel to Fargo, N.D. to take on No. 2 seed North Dakota State, a team that captured a string of championships from 2011-15.
Tickets for the game start at $10 for children, $15 for seniors and $20 for adults. For more information on ticket purchases, click here or call the NAU Central Ticket office at 928-523-5661.
Fans can also purchase tickets in person at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome Box Office beginning Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, but keep in mind, the ticket office will be closed for Thanksgiving Day.
