GLENDALE, Ariz. – It’s the No. 1 goal each week: Stop the run.
And this week for the Arizona Cardinals that means stopping — or at least containing — the best rushing offense in the NFL. It’s a task made easier knowing defensive lineman Josh Mauro will play when the Jacksonville Jaguars visit University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday.
Mauro had been listed questionable with an ankle injury that kept him off the practice field both Wednesday and Thursday.
The Cardinals’ defensive line was already going to be without Corey Peters, so Mauro’s availability is big considering the Jaguars average better than 160 rushing yards per game.
Peters is missing a second straight week because of a bad ankle.
The remaining inactives are quarterback Matt Barkley, safety Rudy Ford, offensive lineman Max Tuerk as well as wide receivers Carlton Agudosi, John Brown and Brittan Golden.
Ford (knee) and Golden (groin) are hurt, while Brown (toe) had already been ruled out.
For the Jaguars, wide receiver Allen Hurns (ankle), linebacker Donald Payne (hamstring) plus offensive linemen Jeremy Parnell (knee) and Patrick Omameh (quadriceps) are out due to injury and among the team’s listed inactives.
The others not in uniform for Jacksonville are defensive tackle Eli Ankou, cornerback Jalen Myrick and offensive lineman William Poehls.
