Center Dylan Strome will rejoin the Arizona Coyotes after the team recalled him from the Tucson Roadrunners on Sunday.
Arizona also re-assigned Mario Kempe to Tucson.
Strome appeared in two games after making the opening night NHL roster but was sent to the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate on Oct. 9.
“I don’t even care where he’s been picked. We want to make him a good hockey player,” Arizona coach Rick Tocchet said after the demotion of the No. 3 draft pick from 2015. “We think by him doing this he’ll become a better hockey player. We’re happy that we have him and we’re excited about his development.
“He’s just got to get a little quicker in his decisions, be a little quicker on the puck. That just comes with playing a lot.”
In Tucson, Strome has fared well, ranking second as of Sunday in total points (26) and tied for the league lead with 18 assists.
He joins the Coyotes with a plus-13 plus-minus in 15 games played with Tucson.
