The UFC flyweight division will be headlining is first pay-per-view since it was added to the biggest fight promotion in the world back in 2011.
On Tuesday, UFC officials announced current flyweight kingpin Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson will put his title on the line against the heavy handed Ali Bagautinov in the main event of UFC 174 in Vancouver.
Johnson (19-2-1), currently the number one ranked 125 pound fighter and number five pound-for-pound according to the official Power MMA rankings, has been on a tear since making the drop down from bantamweight. With five consecutive victories inside the octagon, with four of them being title defenses, Johnson has emerged as one the most dominant champions in company history.
In his most recent outing, the Washington native emerged victorious by way of first round knockout over longtime rival Joseph Benavidez in their highly-anticipated rematch at UFC on Fox 9 last December. Prior to his Knockout of the Night performance, fans saw ‘Mighty Mouse’ set the record for the latest stoppage victory in UFC history, after he forced John Moraga to tap via armbar at 3:43 of Round 5 of their main event matchup at UFC on Fox 8 last August.
Bagautinov (13-2), currently ranked number four at 125 pounds, is currently riding an incredible 11 fight-winning streak, including three consecutive under the UFC banner. In his two last outings, the Dagestani secured a pair of unanimous decision victories over the powerful John Linker and the popular Tim Elliot.
UFC 174 takes place June 14 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. A welterweight matchup between Rory MacDonald and Tyrone Woodley for the number one contender position at 170-pounds will most likely serve as the night’s co-main event.
