The UFC’s August trip to Oklahoma finally has a main event.
On Tuesday night, the Tulsa World reported a matchup between former champion Benson Henderson and submission specialist Rafael dos Anjos is currently scheduled to serve as the night’s main event.
Henderson, currently the top-ranked lightweight according to the official Power MMA rankings, is coming of a fourth round submission victory over Rustam Khabilov in the main event UFC Fight Night 42. This victory marked the Arizona native’s first stoppage victory since his days as the WEC champion back in 2010.
Dos Anjos, currently ranked number seven, is coming off a third-round TKO victory over Jason High on the very same card Henderson topped Khabilov. Prior to this victory the Brazilian dropped a unanimous decision to the surging Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC on FOX 11 in April. This loss snapped Dos Anjos’s five-fight win streak.
UFC Fight Night 49 takes place Aug. 23 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following preliminaries on UFC Fight Pass. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 11.
Here’s how the rest of the card is shaping up:
Thiago Alves vs. Jordan Mein
Timothy Elliott vs. Wilson Reis
Tom Niinimaki vs. Chas Skelly
