ESPN analyst and former NFL coach Herm Edwards has officially been named the new coach of the Arizona State football program.

The hiring has caused mixed reactions from Sun Devils’ supporters, as Edwards last coached college 28 years ago when he was a defensive backs coach with San Jose State.

Edwards’ head coaching experience came in the NFL with the New York Jets from 2001-05 and the Kansas City Chiefs from 2006-08. He was fired as Chiefs head coach following the 2008 season.

The year 2008 could be a blur for most as nine years have come and gone. To refresh your memory, here are a few happenings in the United States the last time Edwards stepped on the field as a coach — aside from the Chiefs’ 2-14 record.
