As Kevin Guy and the Arizona Rattlers found out the hard way Friday night, all good things must come to an end at some point.
Looking to improve their AFL-best record to a perfect 15-0, the two-time defending champions were routed by the San Jose Sabercats by a final of 62-33 at the SAP Center.
Paced by three first-half touchdown passes by Nathan Stanley, two rushing touchdowns by former Rattler Odie Armstrong and a fumble return for a score by Francis Maka, the Sabercats took a comfortable 41-7 advantage into the locker room and never looked back.
Arena Bowl XXV MVP Nick Davila was terrorized most of the evening by the Sabercats’ relentless pressure, tossing 11 straight incompletions at one point during the lop-sided affair.
Davila, who only played in the first 30 minutes of the contest, completed 8-of-24 for 114 yards and one score.
The loss was Arizona’s first on the road since it fell in very similar fashion to San Jose 72-42 back on June 22, 2013.
