Watch: D-backs prospect surprises parents by paying off their mortgage

It wasn’t just giving. It’s not only generous. It was spectacularly well done.

As emotional as it could’ve been when Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Pavin Smith let his parents know he decided to pay off their home, it’s how he let them know that made it tear-jerking.

For Christmas, the 21-year-old first baseman broke the news to his parents with a touching letter. He caught his mother and father reading it on video.

At first, his mom seems to appreciate the nice words — a son’s appreciation to his parents.

But soon, she realizes that her son, the D-backs’ seventh overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, was telling her just what he’d done.

“Thank you raising me in a great home filled with love,” she reads. “Because of all the sacrifices you made to get me to where I am, I want our home to be yours …

“You can’t do that.”

Yes, he can. Smith earned a $5 million bonus for signing with the Diamondbacks over the summer. In his first pro season with the Single-A Hillsboro Hops, Smith slashed .318/.401/.415 with 27 RBIs, 27 walks and 24 strikeouts.
