Wolf: Notes on Favre Bowl I

Oct 6, 2009, 4:04 AM | Updated: Jan 14, 2011, 4:19 pm

THE FOLLOWING ARE NOTES I TOOK THROUGHOUT THE MONDAY NIGHT GAME; EVENTS OCCUR IN REAL TIME; I DID NOT EDIT THEM…

MNF: FAVRE BOWL I

How loud is the Mall Of America Field (metrodome)? Incredible.

This game is so emotionally charged…look at the coaches when players go into the sideline!

Aaron Rodgers has a cannon! The Packers converted a 1st & 20. This is an early victory for GB!

Minnesota’s rush defense is so good Rodgers is going to have to win this game for the Pack! Or lose it by fumbling the ball away.

Whoever told McCarthy to challenge the Rodgers fumble should be excused…

Signifigant: Brett Favre’s first check-off is a running play to AD…AD left, AD right and…Ad again = first-down Vikings! The New Brett Favre!!

The first, four running plays from the Vikings were tackle-zone plays. One of the best play-action plays there is in the NFL. A shot down field will be coming off that “stretch-play.” Mark it down now.

Deanna Favre gave away how important this game was to the Favre family…I can empathize…man, do I feel that. Stephanie would be exactly the same way. This ain’t no stinkin’ game; this is about being right! This is about a way of life and being able to “go into that good night, quietly.”

Favre 7

Packers 0

Aaron Rodgers is the real-deal! The Packers were right in going with him. He is developing into one of the better QB’s in the game. He was young, Brett was old and he needed to play without Favre jerking him around about whether he was going to retire or not. AND THIS KID IS DOING THIS ON THE ROAD IN THE PENUMBRA OF BRETT FAVRE!!

Favre 7

Packers 7

End of the first-quarter: The Packers wouldn’t be where they are without Rodgers and the Vikings wouldn’t be where they are without Adrian Peterson.

Rodgers and the Packers have put together three great possessions. And, again, Rodgers turns the ball over. This was a mistake by Rodgers. Antoine Winfield was “clueing” Rodgers: eyes on Rodgers while feeling the receiver and his route. Everson Walls was the best “cluer” in the world!

Brett Favre is leading…doing what he’s always done…and…what a throw to Sidney Rice! Can you say, “Laser?” Favre 5/5/54/TD

Favre 14

Packers 7

The Packers don’t want to get behind by two or more possessions because the Vikings DL will be coming! They have to keep it close so they can stay three-dimensional: run, pass & play-action.

Huge possession for the Vikings! 3:30 of the second-quarter! And then Clay Matthews Jr. strips AD and goes the distance for a TD! HUGE PLAY!!!!

Favre 14

Packers 14

I hope Beanie Wells learns to run with the tenacity and confidence that AD does!

The rodeo is in town and Favre is throwing ropes all over the field! He’s starting to assert himself. If he keeps this up, the Vikings will win this game BECAUSE of Favre and not AD.

AD TD!!

Favre 21

Packers 14

End of the first-half: The Packers wouldn’t be where they are without Rodgers (good & bad) and the Vikings wouldn’t be where they are without Favre.

— HALFTIME —

The Vikings are starting the second-half almost like they did the first-half: running the football.

Is this still AD’s team? Brett Favre is taking over the Minnesota Vikings; if it were anyone other than Favre, this would still be AD’s team.

Favre 28

Packers 14

The die is cast for Aaron Rodgers: can he bring his team back, on the road, against Favre, in the face of a fierce pass-rush? I don’t think he can and although I won’t blame him it would be unconditional proof of his talent. We shall see…

He’s put them in position but…

McCarthy…4th & goal at the one. Go for it! Your defense has not given you reason to believe you can keep the Vikings from scoring TDs and even though you need a FG to win you’ve got to make this game a one possession game

Gruden said it best: your in a shootout, Jaws! Even though they failed, I like the admission from McCarthy that he believed he WAS in a shootout! It takes guts, man….and I stand and salute him for daring greatly. AND DONALD LEE NEEDS TO MAKE THAT CATCH!!!!!

End of the third-quarter” The Packers are where they are because of Aaron Rodgers’ mistakes and a porous defense and the Vikings are where they are because of Brett Favre!

Favre is making me remember why I loved him so much as a QB and why I can’t stand that he did what he did.

It bares repeating: can Rodgers bring his team back, on the road, against Favre, in the face of a fierce pass-rush? I don’t think he can and although I won’t blame him it would be unconditional proof of his talent. We shall see…

6-sacks by the Vikings: Rodgers has no protection…this is why the Packers didn’t want to get two or more possessions down. The Packers OL is not good and the Vikings pass-rush is elite. Not good + elite = hosed.

Jared Allen ruled the day (3.5 sacks) and delivered the coup de grace. He AND Favre were the difference in this game!!

Favre 30

Packers 14

By the way, the Packers made the right decision on Aaron Rodgers. I have great respect for him. To perform fairly well under these conditions is truly impressive.

Green Bay challenged the ruling on the field of a fumble and it resulted in a safety for the Vikings…which actually worked better for Green Bay!

The Notes for this game are over.

Tiger Woods is the Lord of the Headlines

Tiger Woods is still dominating headlines but the golf world has moved on. In terms of production, this is a man that hasn't been relevant in years but whatever he does cameras, microphones and interest follows him like TMZ on Travolta.

Adrian Peterson’s perdition

There's a ton of subterfuge swirling in and around the Adrian Peterson affair. Rumors and innuendo seem to be the currency used to build arguments as to where Minnesota's talented back is headed. So let me add to the speculation:

The curious case of Chris Borland

Good for Chris Borland. He made an immediate decision through a long-term lens and he seems to be at peace walking away from the game he loves and played so vigorously.

Markieff Morris: Do your job

"Do your job," Bill Belichick said, running his harry hands through his greasy hair. "Nobody is responsible for how you play but you…not your mother, not your aunt Edna…do…your…job."

The threat of Los Angeles is a powerful one for the NFL

The NFL has always been a progressive sports league but what they have done with the L.A. market may be their masterpiece.

LeBron

Recently, LeBron James tweeted something out that clearly referenced Kevin Love. He implored the social media populace to stop trying to "FIT-OUT" and start trying to "FIT-IN."
