Kentucky freshman scores for wrong team, in glorious fashion

Nov 5, 2013, 3:26 PM | Updated: 3:32 pm

Well, thank goodness it wasn’t a conference game.

The Kentucky Wildcats unofficially tipped off their 2013-14 basketball schedule Monday night with a 95-72 exhibition win over Division II Montevallo at Rupp Arena.

John Calipari’s prized freshman class, featuring six McDonald’s All-Americans, was on full display. Julius Randle had 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Aaron Harrison had 10 points and 7 assists.

But there was one play by another freshman, James Young, that stood out among all the rest — and it didn’t even go on his stat sheet.

After a blocked shot by Willie Cauley-Stein, Young attempted to save the ball from going out of bounds by flipping it behind his back toward the court. The only problem? It sailed through hoop, giving Montevallo two points.

After the shot, Young did the only thing he could do — smile from ear-to-ear.

Friendly reminder…don’t play H-O-R-S-E with James Young. That 30-foot, behind-the-back left handed flip is a real killer.
