Blazers guard Damian Lillard offends NBA and NFL legends in Foot Locker commercial

Apr 20, 2014, 9:08 PM | Updated: 9:09 pm

Sunday night marks the first ever postseason appearance for Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, and he’s already stuck his foot in his mouth.

Well, sort of.

In a recently-unveiled Foot Locker commercial, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year can been seen bragging over the phone about getting “fresh new Adidas gear.”

“You’ve got to look good to play good,” Lillard said to the person on the other end of the call. “The last thing I want to be is one of those guys who never wins a ring.”

As soon as the words came out of the former Weber State standout’s mouth, the camera panned to a couch occupied by NFL legends Barry Sanders and LaDainian Tomlinson, both of whom never won a Super Bowl.

Realizing his remark might have ruffled some feathers, Lillard quickly tries to make an amendment.

“Barry and L.T., I meant one of those basketball players that never won a ring,” said Lillard.

The 2014 All-Star only made matters worse, though, as the camera quick shifts to Chris Webber, who failed to ever make the NBA Finals despite making five All-Star appearances.

As C-Web flashes a quick scowl, Lillard gets on the defensive yet again.

“Chris, I didn’t mean you,” said Lillard. “I meant one of those legends who lost in the finals over and over.”

Enter two-time MVP Karl Malone, who Utah Jazz squads fell twice to the Chicago Bulls in the championship round in 1997 and 1998.

The ad ends with the Mailman sulking away from the party with a trey of hamburgers by his side.
