Jordan Spieth shares moment with cancer survivor at WM Phoenix Open

For Jordan Spieth, part of being the No. 3 golfer in the world is that he inspires young golfers. On Wednesday, it was Spieth who was inspired.

Morgan Comer, once a high school golfer, was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2015 and endured 10 months of chemotherapy. She successfully beat cancer and was asked by the Make-A-Wish Foundation what she would like to experience most.

Her answer? Meeting Jordan Spieth.

The two met at the Phoenix Waste Management Open at the iconic 16th hole during the pro-am event. The two continued onto the driving range after Spieth concluded his round.

“What an incredible story. You’re an inspiration for all of us, you really are. Hopefully everybody here gets an opportunity to read up a little bit on your story and obviously wishing you the best,” Spieth told Comer during a press conference.

The cancer wasn’t the only health issue Comer has faced in her lifetime. She was diagnosed with a rare liver disease when she was three months old and needed a liver transplant before her first birthday. Medication needed to keep the liver functioning eventually led the development of tumors in her lung and abdomen.

“So puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? Just her view on life and overall, just the way that she’s walking around talking, she’s just another, a normal kid,” Spieth told the media. “Really her family’s done a great job, obviously and very respectful and lovely young woman that’s going to go a long way.”
