Suffice to say Charles Barkley is not a fan of using analytics to help build a basketball team.
Tuesday night on TNT’s “Inside the NBA”, Barkley went on a bit of a rant against analytics because Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey, who is a fan of them, sent out a tweet bashing Barkley for his take on the subject.
Included among Barkley’s statements was:
“Analytics don’t work at all. It’s just crap some people who were really smart made up to try to get in the game because they had no talent. Because they had no talent to be able to play, so smart guys wanted to fit in so they made up a term called ‘analytics.'”
Barkley also went on to mock the idea of the San Antonio Spurs using analytics before saying people who are big into analytics never played the game and “never got the girls in high school.”
Uhh, OK.
