Kansas City Chiefs linebacker replenishes homeless shelter for Thanksgiving

Nov 23, 2013, 1:40 AM

A backup linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs intervened when he heard several hundred turkeys were stolen from a homeless shelter near his hometown.

Fox Sports Kansas City reports Chiefs reserve James-Michael Johnson has agreed to donate at least 300 turkeys to replace the ones that were stolen from Mission Solano in Fairfield, Calif. The shelter’s staff realized they were missing hundreds of turkeys on Monday.

Mission Solano’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner feeds more than 1,000 at the Fairfield Community Center.

Johnson, who joined the Chiefs on Sept. 1 after being waived by the Cleveland Browns, grew up in the nearby town of Vallejo, and played high school ball in Fairfield. The shelter is in a county that’s roughly between Sacramento and Sacramento.

Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers fans dominate the region, but Johnson may have just turned a few people on to the Chiefs with his Thanksgiving gesture.
