7th Desert Twilight XC Invitational set for Friday Oct. 4

The 7th annual Desert Twilight Cross Country Invitational brings most schools in Arizona and surrounding states to Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa on Friday Oct. 4. Nineteen races are penciled in beginning at 4 p.m. and concluding with the top eight races featuring high school athletes between 7:15 p.m. and  9:25 p.m.

Races of note by time and category:  7:15 p.m. — Girls small school varsity (enrollments of 1,800 or less); 7:30 p.m. –Girls large school varsity (enrollment of 1,800 or more); 7:40 p.m. — Boys small school varsity; 7:55 p.m.– Boys large school varsity (very good teams regardless of size, but short of sweepstakes level); 8:25 p.m. — Girls championship; 8:40 p.m. — Boys championshiip; 9 p.m. — Milesplit Girls sweepstakes (top 25 teams determined by race committtee); 9:25 — Sole Sports Boys sweepstakes (top 25 teams determined by race committtee). 

Defending team champs: Girls small school varsity — Northland Prep; Boys small school varsity — Coconino; Girls large school varsity –Campo Verde ; Boys large school varsity — Chaparral: Girls championship — West Torrance, Calif.; Boys championship — Buena; Milesplit Girls sweepstakes — Xavier; Sole Sport Boys sweepstakes — Los Alamos, Colo.
