The Arizona State Sun Devils will host the rival Arizona Wildcats on Thursday as a ranked team after all.
ASU re-entered the Associated Press poll Monday ranked No. 25 following a home sweep of the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans. The Wildcats, meanwhile, visit Tempe ranked 17th, falling four spots after a loss to UCLA and win over USC.
A week prior, the Sun Devils (19-6, 7-6 Pac-12) fell from No. 25 to seven spots outside the poll following a split in the state of Washington. It was the first time ASU was not in the top-25 in 11 weeks — ASU ranked as high as No. 3 during that run.
Arizona State’s sweep over the weekend was the first of the season and first in coach Bobby Hurley’s three seasons leading the Sun Devils.
Arizona (20-6, 10-3 Pac-12) has split its last two weekends after reaching a No. 9 ranking two weeks ago.
Atop the AP Poll, Villanova (23-2) fell two spots to third after losing to St. John’s. Virginia (23-2) jumped from second to first, while Michigan State (24-3) jumped two spots to No. 2.
Xavier and Cincinnati rounded out the top-5, while Purdue dropped from third to sixth after losing to No. 14 Ohio State and Michigan State this week.
