Softball notes

Division I

Chaparral: Senior P Dallas McBride (.450 ave., 8 HR, 35 RBI, 1.87 ERA, 132 K’s), senior RF Alana Anderson (.446, 33 hits, 11 SB) are the team’s stat leaders. … “The team has been getting better each and every day,” coach Stefanie Ewing said. “Once they started focusing on paying one game at a time and doing the little things correctly, we started playing better. I still think our best ball is yet to come and really like the way the seniors and team have come together.

“I also have had two freshmen, Kyligh Ortiz (.370 ave.) and Taylor Canatelli (3.11 ERA, 48 innings), contribute. What’s great is this year if Dallas gets in trouble I can switch things up and put Canatelli in.”

Basha: “Our leaders so far have been Nicole Matta, Breiile Breland and Brittany Medina,” coach Scott Hoffmeyer said. “They are all seniors and playing very well for us. The keys to our success are the way all the girls get along. They are constantly together and help each other with grades, friend issues, etc. They are a team on and off the field. Our pitching staff has been an interesting story, we have six and they have been sharing all the duties. They are beginning to depend on each other to improve themselves. It has been an interesting development to watch.”

Gilbert: Stat leaders — senior Dani Nelson (.483 ave., 10 HR, 34 RBI’s), senior Taylor McCord (.483 ave.), senior Alex Astorga (.500), and junior pitcher Lynsey Duncan (2.47 ERA).

Hamilton: “We have a group of seniors who wanted to change the culture of Hamilton softball and have set the stage for years to come on how you become a team with their fantastic bonding and team building events,” coach Rocky Parra said. “Tie that in with a young but talented group of girls and that adds up to a winning combination.” … Team has stolen 42 bases. … Sophomore outfielder Nicole Slaughter is hitting .509. … Senior Sam Reynolds has committed to Southern Mississippi, junior Jaime Hatch to UNLV.

Desert Ridge: “We have great senior leadership, as far as stats go,” coach said. “But there are several younger girls who are not far behind. I have five seniors this year, and they will definitely be missed next year. But I feel like I have plenty of girls who can and will step up to fill their shoes when they are gone. I fee this team, as well as last year’s team, is very scrappy.” … Senior Mariann Kennison (.426 ave.), senior Courtney O’Brien (.426 ave., .88 ERA, .759 sluggling), senior Chryse Hausenfluck (18 RBI), senior Mariann Kennison (.530 OBP), senior Sara Captain (.957 fielding percentage), sophomore Bailey Klitzke (11 wins, 124K’s) are the team’s state leaders.

Mountain Pointe: Junior Kristen McCann (.507 ave., .537 OBP, 13 doubles, 104 innings, 93 K’s, 2.14 ERA), junior C, 1B, 3B Hannah Hoban (.551 ave., .608 OBP, 6 HR, 11 doubles), sophomore C/OF/P (.328 ave., .362 OBP), freshman SS Mercedes Lopez (.400 ave., .571 OBP) senior 3B J.J. Huerta (.421 ave, .431 OBP, 7 doubles) are the team’s stat leades. …

Mountain Ridge: Anybody in the starting lineup can hit it over the fence, coach said. … Batting average leaders: Corrin Green (.567, 7 HR), Kaylin Ayotte (.561), Bailey Gaffin (.500), Alyssa DiCarlo (.561, 8 HR). … “Giselle Juarez is consistently getting tougher and tougher on the mound,” coach Michele Markham said. “She has crazy movement and great speed.” …

Red Mountain: Junior Alex Wiley leads the team in average (.434), RBI’s (24), doubles (9), and hits (33). Wiley is 4-0 with a .54 ERA in 26 innings and 32 K’s… Junior Alyssa Fernandez leads the team in runs (32), hits (30) and has 17 RBI’s and five homeruns. … Senior Bre Macha has a 10-3 record and has pitched 91 innings with 137 K’s and a 1.08 ERA. … Senior Marian Ruf is 3-1 in 23 innings with a 1.22 ERA and 32 K’s. … “One of the keys to our success so far has been the internal motivation to win the state championship again,” coach Richard Hamilton said. “Another key to our success is the strength of our team chemistry to this point.” … The six seniors on Red Mountain have signed to play college ball.

Sandra Day O’Connor: Team ERA is 2.73. … Justyce McClain is hitting. 569. … Freshman Hayley Busby leads the team with 19 RBI’s. … “Each day the team is making improvements from the day prior,” coach Melissa Hobson said. “The key to our success so far is focusing on the process versus the outcome, putting in quality work versus a quantity of time spent, taking care of the little things, looking at opportunities as “get to” instead of “have to,” and most importantly of all staying focused and positive.”

Sunrise Mountain: Senior Brooke Taylor is batting .492. … Senior Danae King is batting .518 with 28 RBI’s. … Junior catcher Whitney Chamberlin is hitting .517 with 30 RBI’s. … Freshman Hanna Krosky is hitting .521. … Val Vidal is 9-2 on the mound with a 1.20 ERA.

Raymond S. Kellis: Senior Jessica Jantz (.484 ave., 8 doubles, .516 OBP, .719 slugging), Jessica Rojo (1.45 ERA, 62 K’s), sophomore Rose Jaramillo (.526 ave., 10 doubles, 20 RBI, .877 slugging), senior Taylor Uden (.491 ave., 23 RBI, 10 doubles, .906) are the team’s stat leaders. … “(Rojo) worked hard in the offseason, and she has shown she is capable of taking control of opposing batters,” coach Shawn Sullivan said. “Secondly, we are a year older and little more seasoned. We have a core of seniors, and they are exceptional leaders to our underclassmen.”
