Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron won a grievance against his team and will now be an unrestricted free agent, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Mike Jurecki, the Cardinals planned on watching film of McCarron this week.

The 27-year-old was selected 164th overall by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Playing behind starter Andy Dalton his entire career, the three-time national champion at Alabama has only thrown 133 passes in his NFL career.

In 2015, he filled in for the injured Dalton, completing 76 of his 115 passes (66 percent) for 832 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. In his four starts in the regular season, McCarron was 2-2, not including a playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

McCarron has been heavily linked to the Cleveland Browns, as their head coach Hue Jackson was McCarron’s offensive coordinator in that 2015 season. The Browns agreed to a trade for McCarron before the 2017 trade deadline, but the deal did not go through because of late paperwork from the Browns.

Due to the retirement of Carson Palmer and every other quarterback on the Arizona roster becoming a free agent this offseason, the quarterback position is under a major spotlight for general manager Steve Keim and new head coach Steve Wilks to fill.
