Tucson car wash sign rips ESPN’s report on Sean Miller

Mar 7, 2018, 1:23 PM

Arizona fans already showed how much they support Sean Miller.

When the head basketball coach for the Wildcats returned to the sidelines last Thursday after stepping away for five days, he received a standing ovation. That said it all about how the Arizona faithful feel regarding the ESPN report alleging Miller was caught on an FBI wiretap discussing potential NCAA recruiting violations.

Some in Tucson are still fuming, even after the school put its support behind Miller and said there was no evidence of wrongdoing by the coach.

One local car wash is using that anger to draw customers with a clever marketing tactic. The Bubble Bath Car Wash at 1235 E. Fort Lowell Rd. took a shot at ESPN’s report on its sign.

“Our vacuums suck like ESPN reporting,” it reads.

ESPN’s reporting by Mark Schlabach said Miller and Christian Dawkins, a runner linked to a pro sports agency implicated in the FBI’s investigation into college basketball corruption, had discussed a $100,000 payment to acquire a commitment from now-freshman Deandre Ayton. Miller has since refuted that he spoke to Dawkins before Ayton committed and said he runs a clean program.

Schlabach’s story was based on a source that heard such a conversation between Miller and Dawkins on an FBI wiretap, and follow-up reporting by multiple media outlets have questioned several parts of the ESPN story.

Whatever the truth is, the large majority of Wildcat fans are standing behind their coach. And in doing so, they’re taking any opportunity to let ESPN know their feelings.
