ASU’s Holder ejected for shove of CU player in Pac-12 Tourney loss

Mar 7, 2018, 4:00 PM

Arizona State guard Tra Holder was ejected Wednesday in the waning moments of the Sun Devils’ Pac-12 Tournament loss after he shoved Colorado Buffaloes guard Tyler Bey.

The Sun Devils trailed 92-83 with seven seconds remaining in the game and the shot clock differential at about five seconds. Colorado guard McKinley Wright IV drove into the lane and threw a lob pass to Bey, who dunked the ball.

As Bey ran back on defense, Holder streaked into the paint from beyond the three-point line and shoved the CU freshman to the ground.

A scuffle ensued, and amid the teams being broken up, Buffaloes head coach Tad Boyle appeared to injure his leg.

After reviewing the skirmish, the officials ejected Holder.

Colorado ended up winning by a 97-85 final score thanks to Wright’s 20 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.

Holder, a senior, scored 14 points but went 6-of-14 from the field.

The Sun Devils also got 20 points of contributions from freshman guard Remy Martin, but they struggled by making just 12-of-21 free throws and allowing the Buffaloes to shoot 13-of-21 from three.

Arizona State now awaits Selection Sunday.

After a 12-0 nonconference season, ASU failed to pick up momentum in the Pac-12 Tournament with the opening-round loss and enters the NCAA Tournament selection process having lost five of the last six games.
