Dockett says talent isn’t everything

Oct 17, 2011, 8:16 PM | Updated: 9:28 pm

The Arizona Cardinals returned to practice today after
four days off for the bye week.

Veteran defensive tackle Darnell Dockett was in a chatty
mood as he stood next to his locker and assessed the
team’s four game losing streak.

“We gotta a lot of talent on this team but talent don’t
mean nothing. When talent don’t work hard and do the right
things that’s all it is, is talent,” Dockett said. “But
when talent meets hard work, you got something real
special. We gotta a lot of gifted guys that can do a lot
of things on this team but if we’re not doing it as a
collective unit, it really don’t mean nothing. It’s just a
lot of guys on a roster with names.”

Dockett doesn’t question his teammates’ motivation or
drive, he just thinks they have to put it all together.

“We’re gonna turn it around and take things ten times more
seriously than we ever have. At the end of the day man
that’s what we gotta do, we gotta just play together.”

Heading into the bye week, Dockett and his teammates felt
like the break came at a good time but they also know they
still have a lot of games left.

“At the end of the day we know we put ourselves in this
situation. And we’re looking at it like it’s a new eleven
game season and we’re focusing on playing together.”

The Cardinals host Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers at
University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday.
