Defensive end Josh Mauro is reconnecting with former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher by joining the New York Giants.
The team announced the signing on Monday afternoon.
Mauro, who was released by the Cardinals on Friday, started seven games in 2017 and made 22 tackles, including 1.0 sack.
Entering his fifth year, Mauro played more than 13 games for Arizona in each of the last three seasons and was an free agent signing out of Stanford in 2014.
Mauro is not the first Cardinal to follow Bettcher to New York, where the coach serves as defensive coordinator. Arizona lost outside linebacker Kareem Martin to the Giants earlier in the free agency period.
The Cardinals’ front seven remains in flux.
Martin leaves the team without a third linebacker behind Chandler Jones and Markus Golden, the latter of whom missed most of 2017 with an ACL tear. Additionally, defensive tackle Xavier Williams is a restricted free agent who has reportedly received interest from the Kansas City Chiefs.
