Christian Yelich is showing his diverse skill set this spring training for his new team.
He stepped out of the batter’s box and took a role as Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez in the Milwaukee’s rendition of “The Sandlot.”
The team re-enacted one of the scenes for the movie’s 25-year anniversary and posted it to Twitter on Sunday. Frame-by-frame, it was basically perfect.
With a star-studded cast, strong humor and the exact acting quality you would expect out of a Major League Baseball team, it’s sure to be a blockbuster hit.
Catcher Stephen Vogt performed impeccably as Ham Porter, the trash-talking catcher of the Sandlot team.
Eric Sogard’s glasses made the ASU alumnus the perfect choice to play Squints (though there was no sign of Wendy Peffercorn).
Timmy and Tommy Timmons, portrayed by Jett Bandy, an Arizona alumnus, and former Diamondbacks pitcher Chase Anderson, brought back memories of the wacky siblings.
The team was even able to cast a dog that accurately portrayed the fierce, savage nature of the creature known simply as “The Beast.”
And Brett Phillips? All we can say is he killed it as Smalls.
Five stars, would recommend.
