Morris may be thorn in side of Jimmer pick

As the NBA Draft approaches, fans and radio hosts alike are all discussing who the Phoenix Suns will take with their thirteenth overall pick.

The bigger name floating around is former BYU standout Jimmer Fredette, who was a regular on ESPN’s highlight reels during last year’s basketball season and has been an oft-mentioned player for many teams, including the Suns.

Jimmer was in town last week to work out for the Suns. After his work out, both the Suns and Jimmer both said they were happy with how things went and it seemed like there was a healthy amount of mutual interest.
But there may be a third wheel in the Suns-Jimmer love fest – Markieff Morris.

“I think the Suns like Jimmer, but not enough,” said John Gambadoro, co-host of Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo & Ash show.
When asked who he thinks the Suns will take over Jimmer, should he still be available, Gambo said he “thinks there are others players ahead of him” and the Suns may be looking into a few sleeper draft picks that will surprise fans.

Mark Asher, co-host of Gambo & Ash, agreed with Gambo. “There’s something in my head that says they’re going to take Markieff Morris,” Ash said. He denied having any special information and said he was going with his gut on this prediction.

Ash also made a point that the Suns have a track record of picking one twin brother, citing the Suns’ 2008 pick used on Robin Lopez.

“They love taking the twins and the one that is not as good,” Ash said, speaking about Lopez’s brother, Brook, and Morris’ brother, Marcus.
