Suns could move for another first round pick

The NBA draft is Thursday and the rumors are beginning to fly about teams moving for more picks on draft day.

The Suns have already been linked with a trade with the Timberwolves for their second overall pick in exchange for center Marcin Gortat and now they are rumored to be mulling over the possibility of taking San Antonio’s twenty-ninth overall pick off the Spurs’ hands.

If they do end up trading for both picks and holding on to their thirteenth overall pick, it’s fairly certain that the likes of Jimmer Fredette, Derrick Williams and Markieff Morris will be joining the Suns next season, but at a cost.

Losing Gortat would be a huge problem for the Suns, because without a go-to man all the incoming shooting talent would have no one putting the ball in their hands. Robin Lopez has showed that, despite his height, he is unable to create a presence under the net and often loses out in rebounding situations. Without a significant presence in the paint, the outside shooters won’t be open often enough for them to make a difference worth trading a quality center for.

Bringing in Williams may alleviate that issue slightly, but not enough. If the Suns do decide to make a move, they’ll need to bring in a solid center with one of the picks. The problem is, a center could be tough to come by and only Bismack Biyomb seems to be on the Suns’ radar at the moment.

Come Thursday, the Suns will have some tough decisions to make and will need to do their best to avoid the allure of three young talents coming to the team when San Antonio is on the clock.
