Yasmany Tomas’ Opening Day was not on March 29 and it was not with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Instead, it was on Thursday with the Reno Aces against the Fresno Grizzlies after he was sent down to Triple-A by the D-backs and later outrighted to be removed from the 40-man roster.
Tomas started in left field for the Aces and hit fifth in the batting order. Tomas singled on his first at-bat in the first inning and flew out in the second.
His presence would truly be felt in the fourth inning when he hit a two-run homer to right field off of Fresno reliever Andrew Thome. The long ball traveled 362 feet.
Opening Day went pretty well for Tomas and his team. They scored nine runs in the first four innings on their way to a 10-2 victory. 2017 PCL Most Valuable Player Christian Walker hit a two-run homer of his own and Socrates Brito also had three RBI.
Right-hander Braden Shipley picked up the win, yielding one run over 5.1 innings.
