Suns select Kansas’ Markieff Morris No. 13

Jun 24, 2011, 12:50 AM | Updated: 12:54 am

The Phoenix Suns have addressed their glaring needs for defense and rebounding with the selection of Kansas’s Markieff Morris.

The Suns drafted Morris with the No. 13 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

While some may think Phoenix reached a little bit for the Morris twin, he is exactly what the Suns need.

The 6-foot-10, 245 pound forward averaged just over eight rebounds and 13 points per game last season.

Marcus Morris is widely regarded as the better of the Morris twins, but that is because of his offensive abilities.

Markieff is the better defender and rebounder, something the Suns lacked at the power forward spot last season.

Morris may not be the offensive star that excites the fans, but the Suns allowed 105 points per game last season and are in desperate need of help on the defensive end.
