Trades are expected on draft day.
Teams are often scrambling to switch picks or acquire veteran players in an attempt to better their teams.
While an impending lockout may make draft day trades a bit more complicated than usual, and the Phoenix Suns may be involved.
Draft Express tweeted that Robin Lopez’s name is being thrown around as possible trade bait.
Seems like Robin Lopez’s name is being thrown around quite a bit. Don’t be surprised to see him moved on draft night.
Lopez was not very productive last season as he only averaged six points and three rebounds in 15 minutes per game.
The Suns have been very secretive about their draft day strategy and they could be trading Lopez for a variety of reasons.
Phoenix may be looking to move up or down in the draft, of they may simply be trying to acquire another pick as they only have one pick in this year’s draft.
Lopez has spent three seasons in Phoenix since he was drafted in 2008.
The Suns are expected to take either a guard or forward with their first round pick, however that could change if they pick up a decent player in exchange for Robin Lopez.
While most drafts are full of trades, expect this year’s to be a little light because of the uncertainty of the collective bargaining agreement.
Teams are unsure of the new salary cap limits so it is unlikely to see a team willing to take on a lot of money via trades as they will likely fear a cap penalty.
