The Phoenix Suns reached out to Grand Canyon University coach and former player Dan Majerle to determine if he was interested in pursuing the team’s head coaching vacancy, but Majerle appears happy to remain at his current post, reports 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

Majerle has not ruled out an eventual NBA return but has not accomplished the goals of building the Antelopes into an NCAA Tournament-contending team. The timing isn’t right, according to Gambadoro.

That said, the Suns and general manager Ryan McDonough have a positive relationship with Majerle despite the coach’s departure from Phoenix in 2013, per Gambadoro. Majerle, who coached in Phoenix from 2008-13 and played for the Suns from 1998-1995 and again in 2001-02, has brought recruits to meet the Suns coaching staff and Phoenix players.

The associate head coach under head coach Alvin Gentry, who was fired, Majerle and assistant Elston Turner were skipped over by then-GM Lance Blanks for the interim job in favor of player development coach Lindsey Hunter. Majerle and Turner then left the team.

Since taking over the GCU program in 2013, Majerle is 103-58 as coach.
