The road less traveled? Suns keep rolling in win over Pacers

The following article is not real. It is our best guess
as to what would have happened had the NBA season actually
started on time, playing every game on the 2011-12 schedule. Clearly that’s not the
case, and every stat, quote or observation below never
actually happened. But without REAL NBA basketball to talk
about we needed something to stir our imaginations, so
please take a read and enjoy the Suns 2011-12 season —
sort of.
OK, this is getting ridiculous.
The Phoenix Suns won their sixth straight game to open the
season, topping the Indiana Pacers 98-92 at Conseco
Fieldhouse Friday.
Not exactly high scoring, but it was enough.
“This has already been a long road trip,” Suns head coach
Alvin Gentry said. “But we’re happy to keep winning.”
No kidding.
The Suns got contributions from all over, with Grant
Hill’s 17 points leading the way. The veteran showed an
extra bounce in his step Friday.
“I felt refreshed after not playing much the other day in
Minnesota,” he said. “And I got the ball in good spots.”
Of course, it was Steve Nash who got him the ball in those
spots, though his 13 assists were distributed fairly
evenly.
“We came out with good energy, which is sometimes tough on
the road,” Nash said. “The guys did a great job of
knocking down shots.
“We’re playing well.”
That they are, and the hope is it will continue. Because
as improbable as a 6-0 start may seem, winning Saturday in
Milwaukee seems even less likely.
But with this team, you just don’t know.
“Why can’t we keep winning,” Nash asked.
Good question.
Suns Spotted
• The 6-0 record marks the team’s best start in the
Steve Nash era.
• The Suns will play three more road games before
returning to the US Airways Center on November 18.
• Friday’s game was just the second the team has
played against a team that failed to reach the playoffs
last season.
