Steve Nash is happy to be back, ready to work

Dec 1, 2011, 8:08 PM | Updated: 8:15 pm

Basketball is back.

Practice facilities opened to players Thursday, and Steve
Nash was one of the first Suns to make their way down to
the
US Airways Center.

A two-time league MVP and the team’s best player, Nash
said
he’s in great shape right now, but not “basketball shape.”

“I’ve only played basketball a few times so I’ll
definitely
need the next three or four weeks to get in basketball
shape,” he said. “But I’m healthy and my body feels great.

“Hopefully I’m in a real good position.”

The Suns, as a team, are in a precarious position. They
missed the playoffs for the second time in three seasons
last year, and aren’t likely to see the roster change much
now.

Nash, though, thinks this team can return to the
postseason.

“I definitely would love to see us improve our roster, but
I think it’s up to us to find that little bit of magic —
collectively and individually — to give ourselves a
chance to win enough games to get into the playoffs,” he
said. “I would never say we’re not a playoff team; I think
that should be the minimum of our goals and let’s see how
good we can get.”
