While Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards’ hypothetical train has not yet left the station, we now know when it’ll pull into San Diego in Week 3.
The first kickoff time of the Edwards era was announced on Tuesday for Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. MST for a tilt between the Sun Devils and San Diego State Aztecs. It will be the first road game of the 2018 season after opening the schedule with home games against UTSA and Michigan State.
Arizona State and San Diego State met a year ago in Tempe with SDSU winning that game 30-20 behind 353 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns from running back Rashaad Penny.
In the return game of the home-and-home series, ASU is set to return to San Diego for the first time since the 2013 Holiday Bowl. Head-to-head, the Sun Devils last visited the Aztecs in 2002.
For Arizona State defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales, the game also serves as a homecoming. Gonzales spent seven years on the Aztecs’ staff as safeties coach and most recently defensive coordinator in 2017.
The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
