Arizona Wildcats land Samford grad transfer Justin Coleman

Apr 27, 2018, 2:45 PM

The Arizona Wildcats now have a point guard with experience on the roster for next season and four commitments in April.

Samford graduate transfer Justin Coleman committed to the Wildcats Friday with one year of immediate eligibility remaining.

At 5-foot-10, Coleman averaged 13.5 points and 6.6 assists this season for Samford.

Coleman was originally a top 100 recruit when he signed with Alabama in 2014.

After two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Coleman transferred to Samford in 2016 and sat out the 2016-17 season.

Point guard was a big hole for the Wildcats to fill before next season. Parker Jackson-Cartwright graduated and four-star recruit Brandon Williams decommitted, leaving inexperienced sophomore Alex Barcello as the lone floor general.

Speaking of Williams, Arizona is still in his final three schools and Williams’ stepdad said a commitment from Coleman would not influence his decision, according to the Arizona Daily Star’s Bruce Pascoe.

After the college basketball recruitment scandal led to Arizona having zero commits, the Wildcats picked up four in April. Joining Coleman will be Pittsburgh grad transfer and power forward Ryan Luther, four-star guard Devonaire Doutrive and Belgian forward Omar Thielemans.

Coleman hinted there could be another name coming.
