ASU offensive lineman Sam Jones drafted by hometown Broncos

Apr 28, 2018, 2:19 PM

Another Sun Devil heard his name called in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Arizona State center Sam Jones was selected with the 183rd overall pick in the by the Denver Broncos, just five picks after teammate Christian Sam who went 178th overall to the New England Patriots.

Jones grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colo. where he was a four-star high school prospect. He is now heading back to his home state as a member of the Broncos.

As a three-year starter at ASU, Jones earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention at left guard in 2017. He started a total of 32 games at left guard and both tackle positions on the offensive line over his ASU tenure.

Jones spent four years in Tempe and decided to forego his final year of eligibility declaring for the draft as a redshirt junior, a decision which was partially influenced by the firing of Todd Graham, according to NFL.com.

Jones, at 6-foot-5, 305 pounds, posted a 5.32 40-yard dash and 28 reps on the bench press at the 2018 NFL Combine.
