Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo outfitted himself with a microphone against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and thanks to some self- and outside-editing, gave FOX Sports Arizona viewers a clean inside look into the dugout during the 4-3 win Tuesday.
Of course, there were going to be some foul mouths around him, but Lovullo did his best to let the D-backs know they were being recorded.
“Paul, I’m mic’d up so be careful, don’t cuss, OK?” he tells first baseman Paul Goldschimdt, who doesn’t believe Lovullo.
Unfortunately, that warning didn’t help fans get a glimpse of the usually-quiet Goldschmidt.
“I was going to say something funny but …” Goldschmidt said.
That was the only the beginning. Lovullo commented on a surprising warm-up tune called by pitcher Matt Koch, in-game defensive strategy and is heard chit-chatting with A.J. Pollock about how much sleep he got after a three-homer outing on Monday.
And of course, the microphones caught Lovullo adding some color to Christian Walker’s mammoth home run in the fifth inning.
“He hit it in somebody’s spaghetti up there,” Lovullo said.
