Diamondbacks’ outfielder Steven Souza hasn’t had many chances to make an impact on the field this year, but he showed off in the dugout during the third inning of the game against the Astros on Sunday.
When pitcher Matt Koch hit a line drive into foul territory toward the D-backs dugout, Souza stretched out and grabbed it bare-handed.
The camera zoomed in on him after the catch to catch him saying “Ninja.”
It could be a sign of just how much the D-backs’ outfield defense has improved this season.
In the top of the fourth, Souza made a play that counted – he raced down a long fly ball that would have easily scored a runner from second if it fell.
Through three innings, Souza was still looking for his first hit as a Diamondback. In his first two games since coming back from a pectoral injury, he was 0-7.
He was 0-2 in his first two at bats on Sunday, both of which were fly-outs.
