D-backs’ Zack Greinke drives in first run of game, steals second after

Arizona Diamondbacks starter Zack Greinke had a great start to his outing on Thursday against the Washington Nationals.

He was through five scoreless innings,Ā having allowed only two baserunners, and was up to hit with a runner on second and two outs.

With no run support coming, he decided to take matters into his own hands, lacing a single to left and driving in Ketel Marte for the first run of the game.

If that wasn’t enough, Greinke had one heck of a read on Nationals pitcher Tanner Roark and tried to steal second on the first pitch of David Peralta’s at-bat.

Greinke was safe, earning the sixth stolen base of his career. The replay showed Greinke actually had such a big lead on first that he actually stopped before running to second, but still was able to make it in time to beat the throw with a slide.

He became the third pitcher in franchise history to have a hit, RBI and stolen base in one game, joining Braden Shipley and Joe Saunders.

Greinke came out in the eighth inning after giving up a double to lead off the inning. His final tally was 7.0 innings pitched with four hits, six strikeouts andĀ one earned run after Archie Bradley’s balk brought in the tying run.
