After one start, the Arizona Diamondbacks have decided to option RHP Troy Scribner back down to the Reno Aces and recall RHP Jimmie Sherfy.
Sherfy made 11 appearances for the Aces, posting a 2.25 ERA and converting all seven of his save opportunities.
Last year, Sherfy broke into the majors without allowing a single run in 11 appearances. Sherfy logged 10 2/3 innings for the D-backs last season earning a 2-0 record with one save and nine strikeouts.
Scribner made his debut with the D-backs on Saturday against the Washington Nationals pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up two earned runs. The righty labored through 98 pitches throwing 59 of them for strikes.
Despite taking the loss, Scribner did not allow a hit until the third inning and nearly got out of a jam in the fourth. He was pulled after an RBI groundout by Anthony Rendon left runners on the corners for the Nationals.
The move leaves a hole yet again in the D-backs pitching rotation.
Scribner replaced RHP Kris Medlen in the rotation, who filled the spot for the injured LHP Robbie Ray.
Newly acquired RHP Clay Buchholz is scheduled to start on Sunday for the Reno Aces putting him on schedule to potentially be the next to person to fill the void.
