On Friday, a small snippet from ESPN’s Zach Lowe’s podcast caused quite a stir in the NBA world.

Lowe, joined by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, said Minnesota Timberwolves star big man Karl-Anthony Towns and the team are “not in a good place internally.”

Windhorst would also add another note later on.

“I don’t think Anthony Davis is going anywhere any time soon,” Windhorst said. “But Karl Towns…now that might be a different story.”

This is far, far from a report of Towns wanting to leave the Timberwolves and demanding a trade, but it grabbed headlines.

That was a headline Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine found interesting, as he used to play in Minnesota before being traded to Chicago.

Suns star shooting guard Devin Booker found LaVine’s interest interesting.

Booker, of course, goes back with Towns. They are close friends who played together at Kentucky and were both in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Booker took his fascination with the subject a step further.

For those of you willing to connect some other dots together, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough turned down the notion Friday on ESPN that the Phoenix Suns would rule out trading the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

“We’re certainly open to that. We’ll consider it,” McDonough said of potentially dealing the pick. “Obviously, we’ll have more information closer to the draft than we do today, after we go through the workout process and the interview process and we get the medical physicals. So we’re open to that.

“I think if you look around the NBA, as far as the veteran players, there are probably a few players we’d consider trading the pick for, not … just pick for player No. 1. So it’ll be a busy month for us.”

Like Booker, Towns is eligible for the rookie max contract extension this summer and would be a restricted free agent in 2019.
