An MRI revealed Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Steven Souza Jr. suffered a right pectoral strain in Friday’s loss to the New York Mets.
The outfielder will reportedly not go on the disabled list as he works to get back on the roster.
Souza was removed from Friday’s game due to right pectoral soreness, D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said after the game to reporters. Souza attempted a sliding catch in right field and slid into a wall near the right field foul-line. He was replaced by Chris Owings.
It is the same right pectoral that caused Souza to miss the start of the season.
Team physician Dr. Gary Waslewski is expected to review the MRI on Monday.
Owings will get the start in right field in place of the injured Souza, batting third.
