Minor League Baseball team ‘trolls’ USMNT’s absence from World Cup

The 2018 FIFA World Cup gets underway in less than two weeks in Russia.

For the first time since 1986, the United States will not field a team in the 32-squad tournament.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods, the Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays in the Midwest League, had a little fun poking at the USMNT’s absence from soccer’s biggest spectacle.

Saturday night, the Hot Rods hosted “What Should’ve Been” Night — a celebration of soccer. Bowling Green players donned jerseys fashioned after the US team’s World Cup uniform kit, which of course, will never be worn in tournament play.

Pretty good likeness, huh?

The Hot Rods were successful in wearing the soccer-styled jerseys as they beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 7-2.

The jerseys are being auctioned off through @DashAuctions to raise money for charity.
