Herm Edwards has landed his first recruit for the 2019 class.

West Linn (Oregon) quarterback Ethan Long announced his commitment via Twitter Monday morning. Long is the No. 70 ranked quarterback in the 2019 class and the No. 12 player out of Oregon, according to 247 Sports.

Long’s pledge comes two weeks after being offered a scholarship and an official visit from ASU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Rob Likens.

“The Arizona State coaching staff has brought a new energy and vibe to this University and has made this entire experience incredible,” Long wrote via Twitter. “I want to thank coach Likens and coach (Herm) Edwards for giving me this opportunity and for making the best university in the country feel like home.”

Standing at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, Long threw for 3,102 yards with a 66 percent completion percentage his junior year leading West Linn to a 9-3 record.

ASU was the first Power 5 school to offer Long a scholarship to play quarterback. Utah offered Long to play linebacker but he was not interested in switching positions, according to 247 Sports.

Long was able to boost his status nationally with an impressive showcase at the Nike Elite 11 showcase in Las Vegas. Long ran a 4.69 electronically-timed 40-yard dash and an impressive 4.10 short shuttle run, according to 247 Sports.

Long’s commitment to ASU is a good start for Edwards in his first full year of recruiting. Edwards was able to bring in a strong last-minute recruiting class for 2018. ASU’s incoming recruits are ranked No. 36 in the country and No. 6 in the Pac-12, according to 247 Sports.

Long is now the third quarterback on the 2019 depth chart for ASU, joining Ryan Kelley and Dillon Sterling-Cole. Adding Long was important for ASU as redshirt senior Manny Wilkins enters his final season in Tempe.
