Suns continue solo workouts with Jaren Jackson Jr. on Sunday

Jun 9, 2018, 8:16 PM

The Phoenix Suns will continue their solo NBA Draft workouts on Sunday with Michigan State freshman Jaren Jackson Jr.

In 21.6 minutes per game for the Spartans, Jackson averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.

Known for his defensive versatility, the 6-foot-11 big man has a long 7-foot-5 wingspan he uses to protect the rim and also defend on the perimeter, where he’s one of the best switching big men prospects the draft has seen this decade.

Jackson also shot the three-ball well, hitting 39.6 percent of his 2.7 three-point attempts in his one year at Michigan State. As far as his complete offensive game, though, Jackson will have to fulfill his upside as a scorer around the rim and attacking closeouts off the dribble. He also fouled at a high rate in college, racking up 3.2 fouls a game in limited minutes.

One of the youngest players in the class, Jackson is ranked as the No. 4 prospect by ESPN.

The Suns worked out Arizona center Deandre Ayton on Wednesday, Duke big man Marvin Bagley III on Friday and Texas center Mohamed Bamba on Saturday.

Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said Friday the names included in the group the team will consider at No. 1 are Jackson, Ayton, Bagley, Bamba, and Real Madrid’s Luka Doncic.

Doncic has had his agent say he will not work out for any teams. His Liga ACB season is still ongoing in Spain. McDonough said Friday the team plans to try and bring him into the facilities, but will still have a conversation with him at some point before the draft if that is not possible.
