Coors Field is known for being a hitters ballpark, and the Arizona Diamondbacks made that apparent in the eighth inning of Saturday’s contest against the Colorado Rockies.

The D-backs picked apart Colorado reliever Bryan Shaw, scoring a season-high six runs in the eighth inning to clinch the series with a 12-7 victory.

It was the most runs scored in a single inning by the D-backs since last season against the San Francisco Giants, where they also scored six runs.

John Ryan Murphy got things started for Arizona with a single, followed by a Ketel Marte grounder back to the mound. However, after Shaw was unable to field it cleanly, he overthrew first baseman Ian Desmond.

The double error allowed Murphy to score Arizona’s first run of the inning.

After the Rockies intentionally walked Paul Goldschmidt, Jake Lamb singled to center field, allowing Marte to score to give Arizona the lead.

The D-backs weren’t done.

A David Peralta single brought home both Goldschmidt and Lamb, extending the lead to 10-7.

Shaw walked Jarrod Dyson, allowing Peralta to advance to second before Nick Ahmed joined the fun with a double of his own, scoring both runners.

Rockies reliever Brooks Pounders replaced Shaw with two outs, but not before the damage was done.

The win is the D-backs’ eighth in their last 11 outings, and gives them a two-game cushion over Colorado for the division lead.
