4 Cardinals on CBS Sports’ Top 100 players, none on PFF’s list

NFL teams are taking part in OTAs across the country as football season slowly makes its way through the summer months.

CBS Sports and Pro Football Focus each compiled a list power ranking NFL players. CBS’ list went up to 100 players, and PFF ranked the top 50.

Four Cardinals made CBS’ list, while none of the Cardinals were featured in PFF’s list.

David Johnson came in at No. 21 on CBS’ power rankings. After only playing one game in 2017, Johnson enters 2018 expecting to carry the load for the Cardinals offense. Johnson’s 2016 season was exceptional, and put him in the conversation as one of the best offensive players in the NFL.

While the Cardinals struggled to run the football without Johnson in 2017, a healthy season from the 26-year-old could ease some pressure off of the passing game.

Johnson was the third highest running back on the list.

Next on the list is Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson ranked at No. 29. Peterson was once again a consistent presence for the Cardinals defense following the opponent’s top receiver all game.

The 27-year-old has started every game in his seven-year career, and has turned himself into a top flight corner that most quarterbacks shy away from. Peterson was the fourth ranked cornerback on CBS’ list.

Chandler Jones came it an No. 49 on the list after the best season of his career.

The 27-year-old led the NFL in sacks with 17, and was a disruptive force in the Cardinals defense. The success Jones had was even more surprising considering he didn’t have fellow defensive end Markus Golden rushing from the opposite side for most of the 2017 season. Jones was the sixth defensive end on CBS’ list.

The last Cardinal on the list is future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Fitz came in near the bottom of the list at No. 87.

Coming off of another strong season, the 34-year-old’s future beyond this season remains up in the air. He remains a consistent force in the Cardinals offense regardless of who is throwing him the football. Fitzgerald has caught at least 107 passes the last three seasons, and has started in every game.

To not see any Cardinals on PFF’s list was a bit of a surprise. Peterson, Jones and Fitzgerald were not included, in favor of William Jackson III, DeForest Buckner and A.J. Green.

The Cardinals continue OTAs, with a break in July prior to training camp opening in August.
